Anti Aging for 20 Year Olds: Is It Necessary?

Are you wondering if there are really specific anti aging products that target twenty year olds and above, and if there are, if these products are safe to use?

The most likely answer would be "no" if you are thinking about the commercial skin rejuvenation products and anti-wrinkle creams. Generally, a 20 year old skin does not yet exhibit the signs of aging under normal conditions. Using these commercial anti aging products can in fact cause the reverse for its intended use if regularly applied to an otherwise healthy and young looking skin. Anti aging for 20 year olds should be looked at a different perspective. There are also measures that can be done and skin products that can be used by 20 year olds and they should be for skin aging prevention, not treatment. This is vital to ensure and maintain young looking skin for years to come.

There are certain factors environmental and otherwise, which cause premature skin aging that any young individual should be aware of. Before we can proceed to the procedures of effective anti aging for the 20s and beyond, it is important to know what exactly causes our skin to look old. Here are some of them.

  • Sunlight – It is a proven medical fact that excessive exposure to sunlight causes accelerated skin aging, aside from the fact that the skin is prone to skin cancer under prolonged exposure to the dangerous UV rays of the sun. While one should not take this as a reason to stay away from the sun at all costs, it is advisable for anybody to avoid prolonged and unprotected exposure to sunlight especially during peak hours.

  • Smoking – Cigarette smoking is a major contributor to skin aging due its detrimental effects to overall health. Excessive smokers have been statistically shown to develop dry and wrinkled skin even at a young age compared to non-smokers.

  • Pollution– Exposure to environmental free-radicals is a major factor to skin aging. Pollution creates free radicals which are oxygen molecules that lost one of its electrons thus becoming unstable. When in contact to our body, these free radicals strip off electrons from the skin’s cellular molecules to replace their missing electrons. Prolonged exposure to pollution can cause cellular damage to the skin that causes skin aging.

  • Genetics  This factor could work for and against skin aging. If you are blessed with good genes, you are most likely to enjoy your youthful looks for years to come. But bad genes will do the reverse. There are people who look older than they are supposed to because of their genetic make-up. And they are the ones who should make serious decisions about using anti-aging products.  They may try an alternative program like facial exercise or anti aging programs.

Anti aging for 20s and even younger should be dealt with by considering healthy living fundamentals and using natural and non-intrusive anti-aging prevention methods. These should include the basic 8 glasses of water intake daily, a healthy diet consisting of food rich in anti-oxidants and having enough and regular sleep. Basic skin care products like a good, quality sunscreen is recommended when doing prolonged activities under the sun.

Topical exfoliants are also recommended to strip away dead skin cells and to unclog pores, thus improving skin texture.
